*I'm still working on this, but...* - I think the world has moved on from the idea that the student experience has inherent value. - Other SU's have their focus on student experience. Particularly Russell Group SUs. - Ultimately this is about students' quality of life - However there is a sense that students' quality of life doesn't matter to this government. And even to this opposition. And even to many of our universities. - By focussing on the fact that universities transform students we're changing the argument slightly because we then focus on what the barriers to that transformation are. - The transformation is more important to the universities and the government. It's a slightly more right-wing argument in many ways. - So it is then more focussed on specific factors that impact on the student experience. - And by framing it this way it gives more specifics rather than just the more nebulous idea of "student experience" or "quality of life". - This allows greater understanding from stakeholders, including our staff who want to create change. It gives them focus. it allows us to prioritise. It ensures that officers have 'coat-hooks' to hang onto. And provides a better result in the "quality of life" piece anyway. ## See also - [[Sinek's Why Model]] - [[The student experience is a luxury most students can’t afford]].
