There are *multiple* ideas why I'm doing this:
## Work reasons
- [[University of Salford Students’ Union|Salford SU]] is pretty crap at sharing knowledge:
- Our staff turnover is high and induction can take a while, perhaps sharing my thoughts in this way can accelerate induction. We induct a new team of [[Student Officers]] every year.
- The role of USSU and the role of a CEO is complex. Sharing something that so clearly demonstrates how everything interconnects should be helpful.
- USSU still remains a bit of an enigma to many of our stakeholders. Perhaps publishing some of this stuff will give [[University of Salford]] colleagues an insight, or even perhaps some colleagues from the wider charity sector.
- I am very nosey and want to know what's in all my colleagues' notebooks. Why wouldn't I therefore open mine up first? [[Transparency]] is important to me- what more can I do to be transparent?
- I've already written all these notes for me. Sharing is caring. And it could become a useful resource for colleagues who either want to know how to convince me of something, or just want to understand me better, or how I approach that role. So it’s really another way to [[Empowerment|empower]] colleagues.
- As I suffer(!? 😂) from being an ENTJ this might be helpful when I miss out some of the details or background when articulating my vision - see [[Ed's MBTI Report]]
- “Your singular perspective may patch some small hole in the vast tattered fabric of humanity.” - Ryder Carroll.
- "When I, as the captain, would “think out loud,” I was in essence imparting important context and experience to my subordinates. I was also modelling that lack of certainty is strength and certainty is arrogance." - L. David Marquet, *Turn the Ship Around!*
So really it's just a tool to enable progress towards [[Salford SU's charitable objects]].
## Personal reasons
- I read good stuff. I'm interested in interesting things. I believe what I do, and what I read, has value. So why not share that?
- "The minute you learn something, turn around and teach it to others." - Austin Kleon
- I want to demonstrate the power of a [[Second Brain]]. Also, writing with the audience as a third party is helpful- see [[My note-taking philosophy]].
- I believe in a philosophy of [[working with the garage door open]], particularly as a way to learn and keep myself honest. See [[Blogging is essential to the development of a second brain]].
- I want people to be readily able to agree and/or disagree with me, or show me a different way. Opening my brain up in this way could facilitate that. Certainly talking to others is the best way to learn.
- A published second brain inherently demonstrates vulnerability. It is a learning exercise. It is more genuinely human (it’s anti-marketing and non performative) and therefore is the opposite of current social media.
- I want to become better at writing and blogging. A publishing habit through my second brain will help develop these skills.
- As I suffer from a bit of [[Perfectionism]] this is part of my healing- I’m telling the world that my thoughts aren’t complete, my process isn’t complete. As opposed to blogging, which is more about presenting the finished article, lots of my notes here are a load of crap.
- Creating second brain and publish [[Habits]] change my beliefs about myself.
- [[Ed's MBTI Report]] basically says that publishing my second brain is a drug for people like me!
>[!Note]+
>Not everything in my [[Second Brain]] is published here. Particularly personal notes, as well as notes about other people are not published. Some of its down to confidentiality, some of it's down to me not being [[Vulnerability|vulnerable]] enough...
## Future ideas
- Why write a CV when I can just share my second brain? Or parts of it?
- Finish an interview and I didn't land the answer to a question/ I said something contentious? Share a note that explains my thinking, quickly and easily.
