University of Salford Students’ Union (Salford SU) is a Charitable Company Limited by Guarantee (CLG). As such it is both a charity and a company, and it’s regulators are the Charity Commission as well as Companies House.
USSU is a [[Students’ Unions|Students' Union]] in accordance with the definition of the [[1994 Education Act]]. The Memorandum of Understanding between [[The University of Salford]] and USSU confirms USSU as the sole representative body for students at the university.
## Role of the CEO
As CEO of this organisation I have overall responsibility for the following matters:
- [[Salford SU Finances]]. As a charity USSU must maintain its finances in order to meet its charitable goals.
- [[Salford SU Governance]]. USSU must adhere to its Governing Documents and Bye-Laws.
- [[Salford SU Stakeholders]]. As a membership organisation and advocacy organisation, USSU must engage and manage its stakeholders.
- [[Salford SU HR]]. As an employer we have legal and moral obligations to our employees.
- [[Maintain Health and Safety]]. As an employer we must maintain a healthy and safe environment for our colleagues. As an organisation that facilitates events and activities we must ensure that they are safe for all participants.
- [[Salford SU Strategy Development 2022-23]]. Every organisation needs to know its [[Sinek's Why Model|why]], and what it is aiming to achieve.
- [[Salford SU Legal Compliance]]. We have legal duties in addition to the ones already mentioned above.
- [[Salford SU Pension Schemes]]. Due to my CEO role I am a trustee on one of the Pension Schemes that the organisation created many years ago. I also have wider Pension responsibilities.
- [[Grow Salford SU Leadership and Culture]]. I am the CEO and therefore responsible for the leadership culture within the organisation, or at least for perpetuating it.
- [[Salford SU Departments]]. I have responsibilities to each of the departments and teams that work for the organisation.
- [[Robert Stanley Armitage Trust (RSAT)]]. Due to my role I am also a Trustee of RSAT. This is a trust fund set up to facilitate the charitable missions of the three main Greater Manchester SUs.
