If don't want to read at home in first few weeks then don't have to. Should be enjoyable. Just read to them instead of asking them to read. Reading not just decoding. Comprehension. Move focus from sounding right to comprehending. Best way is to talk about texts. Google classroom. Will get access. # Reading. Reading requires two skills - phonics and word recognition - Understanding Phonics and word recognition - keep sounds short so it is heard well. - SAT should be short letters phonemes - Correct terminology used with kids. - Blending letter sounds together. - don't add 'uh' sound to end of letters - YouTube video "how to pronounce pure sounds" - Meeting in early September to reiterate Graphemes or spelling alternatives - cook and spoon have same 'oo' letters but different sounds. - Teaching starts soon in the year - Starts with 's' - Floppy's phonics teaching. - Book given that teaches sounds. Take home for two weeks. - Can start with pre-phonics. No words in these books. Environmental sounds. - Oral blending and oral segmentation. Floppy's fingers. Reading without letters. Zip is /z/ /i/ /p/ - Try to say "we're going to B-E-D" now and getting them to understand this means bed. - Use fingers to try to show the link between letters and sounds. - 48 sound books. If child gets stuck - use phonics first - Say other sounds in word - Floppy's fingers - Read to end of sentence - Look at picture- does it help. - Don't use closed questions. Might be difficult if they're tired. - Give clues.
