> It is not sufficient simply to have an experience in order to learn. Without reflecting upon this experience it may quickly be forgotten, or its learning potential lost. It is from the feelings and thoughts emerging from this reflection that generalisations or concepts can be generated. And it is generalisations that allow new situations to be tackled effectively.’ - Gibbs

## Issues with Critical Reflection
- Finding time to reflect
- Fear of surfacing unmanageable complexity
- Paralysis through analysis
- How to give constructive and loyal criticism of the organisation and its actions? A particular problem in the UK?
- [[Spaced repetition]] needs to be a part of any learning, but particularly self-development.
- Leadership problems are not linear and simple. We live in complex times with "[[Wicked Problems]]" and intangible issues. Analysing one problem will discount the implications of another issue. Often leaders use one 'hedge' to minimise multiple risks- the alteration of one hedge has implications for multiple facets of the organisation. Without reflecting into a comprehensive and interconnected system it will not be possible to
The complexity of reflection, and understanding implications for whole organisation requires advanced note-taking and contextualisation techniques such as Zettlekasten, as well as the continual embedding of that learning and reflecting on past learnings. It is therefore not simply a cycle but a perpetual activity, with multiple interconnected cycles being operated simultaneously. Problems cannot be seen in isolation.
