# My Second Brain Workflow
*This is what my personal second brain workflow looks like.* It is prompted by the [[CODE model]] and learning from across the internet.
## Notes prompted by others' ideas
1. Highlight passages in books and texts, and capture them using [[Readwise]].
2. Summarise the content using progressive summarisation. Update the metadata to show that they're reviewed
3. Translate whatever resonates with you- what you read, watch, listen to or otherwise consume, or your [[Reflection|reflections]]- into your own words. Write in the 3rd person. Strive to keep the meaning as close as possible to the original text.
4. Think about how each note relates to broader themes about things you're interested in, or your research/ aims. Consider how the new note contradicts or supports existing notes or thinking. Consider if new notes can be combined with old notes to generate new ideas or insights. Link these things
5. Do not file logically. Create '[[Maps of Content (MOCs)]]' around ideas that bubble up from the morass of notes and insights that you have. Once these are developed they can be integrated with other Maps of Content or other ideas to generate new insights and thoughts. Tools like the Graph View can be useful here.
6. Notes can then be turned into a rough draft of whatever your aim is. You shouldn't need to have to start with a topic in mind - this should evolve from the writing.
## Reviewing old notes
- The Readwise app uses [[Spaced repetition]] to ensure that old notes and 'resonances' are colliding with whatever you're working on at the moment. This is part of [[stigmergy]].
- Use the Readwise project or [[_Readwise Process List]] to review old ideas.
- Every week, have a 'learning celebration' as part of my weekly review.
## Creating something new
### Based on others' thoughts
- When generating a project, bring notes together into a project folder in my [[PARA Method]] filing system. Go down the rabbit hole of divergence to see where it takes you- the search bar, graph view, links, and strange new worlds plugin will help here. This is part of the [[Divergence and Convergence]] process.
- Don't forget to
- Start the convergence process through creating new notes.
## Based on my thoughts
1. Create a new note
2. Write down what comes to mind, including key words.
3. Link to any obvious other pages
4. Search Obsidian for notes, and link to them from the main note.
5. Search DEVONthink for appropriate documents and other ideas. Link to these from the note.
