## Summary
*My leadership principles are rooted in the power of human agency. For me, it is about believing in people, seeing the totality of who they are, supporting their well-being, and then letting them get on with the job, within a cultural and strategic framework for success. Through fostering trust, autonomy and accountability, I am to create empowered, anti-oppressive and psychologically-safe organisations, that drive real impact.*
Some ideas:
- [[leadership is basically about establishing and maintaining group wellbeing]]
- [["There's no such things as bad teams, only bad leaders"]]
- I exercise [[servant leadership]]. Leadership is service and sacrifice. Leadership aims need to be pro-social. We are tribal creatures. See also [[Subsidiarity]].
- [[Leaders are Merchants of Hope]]
- I believe in the empowerment of teams as that's the best way for us to overcome [[Mintzberg]]'s [[Strategic planning must enable an organisation's response to emergent conditions.|Three strategic fallacies]].
- Leaders are responsible for crafting a public narrative. I’m not great at this.
- a leader is a lighthouse - see [[Atlas/Dots/Statements/Be a lighthouse not a lifeboat|Be a lighthouse not a lifeboat]]
- Leaders should be a steward of the lives of the people entrusted to you. Ask yourself, "where are my followers not safe, healthy or fulfilled?". See [[Everybody matters leadership quote]]
- Leaders should enable others - [[Distributed Leadership]]
## My Leadership Background
- very privileged education and background
- had leadership training but few leadership opportunities
- Left private school before end of 6th form
- wary of privilege and abuse of power/ uninformed power and privilege
- Then saw the less privileged side of life
- Went to a normal college
- Lived in Tanzania for a year, teaching English. Saw proper poverty for the first time. Met people very different to me.
- My leadership principles are forged through this and my attempt to marry the excellent bits of my schooling with the different contexts that don't have this privilege, and forge new ways of leadership that are ultimately more ethical, more equitable
- I am skeptical of leadership behaviours that play the game, and have listed these here [[Leadership Behaviour I hate]]
## People who have influenced my leadership skills
- [[Ted Lasso]].
- [[Bluey]] (really Bandit Heeler!)
- [[Jed Bartlett]]
- Rhiannon- helped me to see the kindness required in leadership
- Vicky- setting and maintaining standards. Doing the right things the right way.
So mostly fictional people!
I'm sceptical of leaders. I don't believe anyone should ever get a statue as they're human and fallible: [[Why every single statue should come down]]
