This is a key part of the [[Salford SU Strategy]]- our mission is to confront and overcome the barriers to learning.
Through the [[Alterline Student Research 2022]] we finally know what the main barriers and secondary barriers are, and in which order we should prioritise them.
We chose to focus on impact on learning engagement, rather than impact on learning outcomes. This is because we don't want to make a judgment on what a student thinks a good outcome would be.
## Primary barriers
*Things which have high impact on learning engagement:*
1. Being isolated from the learning community
2. Not getting the full university experience
3. Not getting the right support with and experience from their course
4. Not feeling they are growing to achieve their future potential
## Secondary barriers
*Medium to low impact on learning engagement but high frequency problems:*
5. Concern for their personal safety & [[Discrimination]]
6. Concern about mental health and wellbeing
7. Problems with their accommodation
