>[!Summary]+
>- The trauma that Jewish people have faced means it is almost impossible to discuss Israel Palestine without it becoming triggering for Jews. Language is incredibly important.
>- When discussing Israel Palestine you need to take a trauma informed view, including the trauma of being Jewish and subjected to violence and ostracisation over literal millennia.
>- Tropes about Jews are also applied to Israel as well.
- Completely possible to talk about IP and not be antisemitic, also opposite is true.
- Therefore then no point saying "I'm not antisemitic but..." because there are lots of things we discuss that can be antisemitic and also not antisemitic, eg noses.
- Jews in Israel are homogenous powerful group. In Britain they are not. So power dynamics very different. Racialised minority in the diaspora.
- Compare to Asian-Americans, in China powerful, in America as Asian-Americans they are not.
- Britain is responsible for 1000 years of antisemitism. Was also responsible for administering the Mandate Palestine. Jews bombed Brits out of the area. Perception from Jews that Brits are not interested in Jewish safety.
- Be aware of criticism that compares holocaust and zionism. Traumatic.
- Remember, a people doesn't have to be more moral just because you had a trauma. Might have more capacity to, but doesn't mean you have to, it's just another burden.
- Same language sometimes used by people with very different intentions- eg Israel doesn't have the right to exist. Better to say "ethno-nationalism is problematic".
- Tropes about jews are used on Israel.
- Israel is powerful
- Israel is rich
- Israel is unnecessarily/ innately bloodthirsty.
- Israel is uniquely demonic or evil. Idea that "pre-Israel was peaceful and perfect, and then Israel came along..." is patently not true.
- If use certain language then this will be heard by Jews in a certain way.
## Hurt and harm
- Open wound, but touch them. Hurt but not harmed.
- Activating unhealed wound not the same as causing wound.
- Hurt and harm both experienced as pain.
- What is the impact if I do rub up against these wounds
