# Safeguarding Policy
Salford SU's Safeguarding Policy establishes procedures for protecting vulnerable individuals — primarily students, but also staff and volunteers — from harm. As a registered charity working with young people and students, the SU has a legal obligation to have robust safeguarding procedures.
The current version was approved at [[2025-09-24 - Board of Trustees]] with an annual review cycle confirmed. It followed the university's own review of its safeguarding approach, with Salford SU seeking a more integrated model with the university — this was partly achieved.
## Key Provisions
**Designated Safeguarding Lead:** Ed Moloney (CEO) is the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) for the organisation. Responsibility sits at the most senior operational level.
**Reporting:** Safeguarding concerns are reported through the University's [[Report and Support]] system, which provides a formal route for disclosure and referral. The SU and University operate with a shared reporting infrastructure.
**Scope:** The policy applies to:
- All students of the University (members and non-members)
- Staff and volunteers of the SU
- Any third parties operating under SU auspices (e.g. society leaders, contractors)
**Review cycle:** Annual, led by the CEO and reported to the Board.
**Training:** Regular safeguarding training is required for staff in relevant roles. SLT responsible for ensuring compliance.
## History
- A safeguarding update was among the matters arising at [[2025-11-25 - Board of Trustees]]
- The current policy (September 2025) followed the University's own review and represents a more integrated approach between SU and University safeguarding frameworks
